Invited by South Yorkshire Police Authority, Paragon Interiors Group undertook both the design and fit out of their new training and operational facility at Wath-upon-Dearne in Rotheram. The 60,000sq ft building is now the forces flagship centre, designed to improve productivity and be a central location for all new and existing recruits to train under the one roof.
The training facilities are on the ground and first floor of the Callflex building, while the second floor is the base for the major incident teams (MIT) from Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley.
The facility has been built to very exacting standards as set by the Police Authority. The interview rooms comply with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) and the Immersive Learning Suite provides an environment that mirrors the complex processes behind a critical incident investigation.
Works included high security access installation throughout the building, specialist lighting, air conditioning, flooring, electrics, reception areas, state of the art gym facilities and a staff restaurant catering for 500 covers.
The new training centre will house specialist investigation units, like the cold case review team, and will provide 20 classrooms for all new recruit training, boosting efficiency and providing a purpose-built facility for the 21st century.
This £2.65 million design and build project is considered as an exemplar facility which will be used by police forces from other counties.
